So, Where Is The Catch?!
You know, the Israeli general guy who wants (English m/t) Egypt to donate 600 km sq of land to Palestinians to help them have their own state (and have Israel take, guess what, 600 km sq from Gaza to secure its borders!!) In effect he is trying to actually move the Gaza strip 600 km away (Now if we can get Gaddafi to agree to give us 600 km of Libya, we can complete this left-shift move and have Israel get into the record as the first country ever to occupy land remotely).
Anyhow, I won't insult the intelligence of anybody here by trying to actually discuss whether anybody will agree to this plan, but I have one question: where is the catch?
This guy is the outgoing national security advisor of Israel, so you know, not your average lunatic. I'm just wondering, what ace is he pulling out of his sleeve?!

My guess is he isn't too serious about this. If he is then he is really loco. I suspect he may be trying to spite you Arabs. I've seen these sort of absurd proposals floated around before. Given the fact that he couldn't even convince Sharon to go with it, I think it is safe to say, as you indicated, this proposal isn't going anywhere.
I believe that Israel should draw its borders unilaterally and get it over with. I don't think they should partition Jerusalem, though Muslims who wish to visit the Rock should be given full access.
Palestinian refugees can either return to the West Bank or Gaza or, if the Arab countries have any sense, just allow the Palestinian refugees among them to become citizens.

That's a typical tactic TB, float an idea, however ourageous it might be, no one would take it seriously except the extremist fringes, after some time passes by float it again, this time around it's lost it's shock value, within two or three cycles it sinks in, becomes a part of the main stream, and suddenly you'll find the concesus the media feeding it's subjects is that egypt's greedy, obstructive to peace, and is the main reason for the palestinian suffering and the barbaric abuse they're subjected to on the hands of their occupiers (the palestians are just so willing to leave their homes and lives to those peaceful god loving settlers if only those greedy egyptians wouldn't hang on to this tiny sandy lot).

Would you want to have people that kill their own people and then blame others for a neighbor? Would you give up some of your land for them?
Read it all
But you won't believe it, because its just too awful.

He is definately serious, as serious as the U.K. was before WW2 when they offered Jews Uganda to establish their homeland. Maybe they want Sharm el Sheikh too.
